Crunch Toast
This recipe is a favorite amongst my athletes. Crunch toast is a simple breakfast that provides the fuel you need to get you through your training session, and makes for an excellent post-workout recovery snack.
Ingredients:
2 slices whole wheat bread (I recommend Ezekiel brand's sprouted grain or cinnamon raisin)
2 Tbsp peanut or almond butter (check out my blog for the best to buy)
2 tsp honey
1 large banana
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Directions: Toast bread. Spread on nut butter, add banana slices, then drizzle the honey and sprinkle cinnamon on top.
Nutrition per serving = 456 calories, 66g carbs, 16g protein
Sports Nutrition fact: Combining carbohydrates with protein 30 minutes after a workout helps aid in recovery by replenishing glycogen stores. The key to proper recovery is a 4:1 ratio of carbs to protein (4 grams of carbs for every 1 gram protein.) This recipe makes for an excellent option post-workout.
